Travel Necessities

My husband and I are coming up on our ONE YEAR anniversary this Sunday. I can’t believe it, y’all! This past year has totally flown by! It feels like just yesterday we were gearing up for friends and family to come together in Orlando to share our most special day. We had the best time; I just want to relive it all over again!

This year we decided to take a trip to a place at least one of us hasn’t been to. Jeff travels a lot, but hasn’t ever been to New York City, whereas I have been a few times with my mom and sister and have so many great memories. NYC is the most magical city with always something to do and a new place to see. We’re going to be doing a lot of site-seeing with jammed packed days to do as much as we can. When in NYC, right?? I’m so excited to be his tour guide and enjoy the best places to eat, shop, explore and best of all make our own memories together.

When traveling to New York, I feel like you have to break out your best goods. Shoes, jewelry, clothing, and, let’s not forget, makeup. You have to be “on point” with your look if you ladies know what I’m talkin’ bout. I always feel the need to bring my best products since you never know what you’ll be up to. Buuut, at the same time I like to keep it light when packing and I try to bring only the essentials. This is always a challenge for me.

My makeup bag sometimes looks like shoving ten pounds of sugar in a five pound bag. It’s ridiculous if I may say so. I am making it a point to do better, especially since I have so much makeup.  This trip, I’ve been planning ahead of time so I can map out what we’ll be doing and how I can prepare for it. A minimal look by day with a sultry look by night, because visiting the Statue of Liberty and going to a fancy dinner are two different looks, y’all!Processed with VSCO with v5 presetProcessed with VSCO with v5 preset

  • I always grab as many mini size products as I can. I like to stock up throughout the year so that when it comes time to hop on a plane I’m not panicking to get everything in travel bottles
  • I like to grab the free mini’s from Sephora to gather for trips. They’re the same product without all the bulk
  • I also like to keep everything in containers that I know will handle a long trip. I try to keep most glass products at home, but of course this can be hard. Only if I know it’s a sturdy glass product will I add it to my bag
  • Bringing a smaller eye makeup palette is key. I try not to get crazy with eyes on vacation, so I try to pick a palette I know will work for every and any situation

What are some of your travel essentials that you HAVE to travel with??

My 5 Bridal Makeup Necessities

When I do weddings there are certain essentials that need to be used. I want my brides to feel their absolute best and most important, look their absolute best. I always use products I would use on myself and that I believe are top notch. I have a little of everything in my kit. I’m literally prepared for anything. From multiple shades of foundation to blue eyeshadow to hot pink lipstick, I’ve got it.

To try to nail down my top items I must have in my bridal kit is like dangling a glass of wine in front of me and telling me to not drink it. It’s literally not possible. But I’ve thought about it and I believe these five products are my absolute “have to have” items that a makeup artist should keep in their bridal kit.

Concealer is a must when it comes to bridal makeup. They haven’t slept, they’ve partied at the rehearsal dinner, and on and on…they literally request concealer by the tub full. For these cases, I like to go a step further and add in my correctors along with my concealer. It’s an absolute must. From dark circles to that little friend that pop up on the chin to say hello, concealer alone is not gonna cut it. I like to use an orange/peachy tone corrector for under the eyes and a green corrector for anything pink or red. These are total life savers if I’ve ever seen it.

This is one of my favorite products in my kit. It’s a moisturizer and primer in one and works for all skin types. I don’t like to use an oil when I’m working with brides. It could make the skin look to oily and make the foundation “skip” off the face when applying. Not a good look. Embryolisse helps moisturize the skin perfectly without overdoing it and won’t mess with the look of the makeup throughout the day. I discovered at the makeup show one year and everyone was talking about it, so I had to try it, and I never looked back.

Every bridal kit REQUIRES waterproof mascara. There’s no ifs, and, or buts about it. I get questions every wedding, mostly from the mother of the bride, asking if the mascara is waterproof. No one ever wants the look of black tears on their face for one of the most special days of their lives. For that extra insurance, you definitely need to have waterproof mascara. I have been using Maybelline Great Lash waterproof mascara for YEARS. It’s the blackest of black mascara and absolutely never fails in the harshest of crying moments. I also recommend using this one and this one for the big day.

Strip lashes are for the birds. I personally find it hard to wear a strip lash. They tend to be too tight, one end unglues in the middle of an event, and they overall are too heavy of a look. For bridal makeup, I like to keep it simple. I have a lot of brides that want a more natural look. Most are very intimidated my a strip lash and instantly say no to lashes. Well, then I introduce them to the Ardell Individual Naturals Lashes. I actually love to wear these for a night out or to glam up any look I’m wearing. They’re especially the best for bridal makeup. They go on one by one and you can customize between short, medium, or long lashes. You can also do a single layer or a fuller, double layer of lashes. After applying these, brides are wowed and so happy with the result.

You want your makeup to last, especially on your wedding day. I work is so many conditions living in Florida so I want to know that my bride is going to look her very best from the beginning of the day to the end. Makeup is one of those things that cannot be taken lightly on your wedding day. Between those intimate pictures with your new hubby to dancing with guests till the early hours, if your makeup fails, I fail. That’s not happening on my watch. I have kept this Mac Cosmetics Prep & Prime Setting Spray in my kit since the beginning. I have my own personal stash as well that I use daily. It just helps lock in every morsel of makeup (with a fabulous scent might I add) and won’t budge for the rest of the day/night. It’s literally a miracle in a bottle.

Bridal Makeup

Bridal Beauty #2

Before Christmas I had the pleasure of doing the makeup for Molly’s beautiful wedding. She was so lovely to work with and I loved having the opportunity to be a part of her big day. Her bridal party of ladies were amazing as well. This was definitely added to my list of favorite weddings I’ve done makeup for. Everyone was so fun, lively, and completely dedicated to the bride on her special day.

Molly requested an elegant eye for her wedding makeup to compliment her modern updo. I decided to use airbrush foundation to soften the look of her skin and Mac Cosmetics eyeshadows to create a bolder bridal eye makeup . I love the consistency of Mac shadows as they are highly pigmented and go on super smooth.

Her final look consisted of perfectly glowing skin, a darker plum eye, and rounded off with a rosey mauve lipstick to make the lips have a subtle pop. I loved this look on her as it fit her style and looked timeless in her photos for years to come.

Top Faves Friday: Neutral Lipstick

If it were a crime to have too many lipsticks or glosses, guilty as charged. How many is too many when it comes to lipstick? I just need options, ok!

Lipstick is one of those items that you just can’t get enough of. Lipstick can change the whole trajectory of your day. Whether it be a first date with the guy you’ve been eyeing, your boss reminded you of  your powerpoint presentation due tomorrow, or if your just in a funk that you CANNOT seem to bounce back from, handle it with some lipstick.

I find myself to be a gloss lover year round. To me, there’s something about gloss that makes me feel myself. It gives any look a youthful and fresh aspect that lipstick alone can’t give. Don’t get me wrong, I have my fair share of lipsticks I can’t live with out as well. From nude matte to flirty pink gloss, I have all the bases covered no matter what the makeup look calls for.

Here are a few of my all time fave neutrals and ones that I tend to reach for the most when desperate times call for desperate measures.

From L to R

NYX Crayon Lip Liner in Natural– This is one of my favorite lip liners. I’ve used many a lip liner in my day and this is one of the best. It goes on super creamy and blends nicely into the lipstick of choice. This color is the perfect shade to go with most of my lipsticks so I always stock up.

Mac Cosmetics Cremesheen Lipstick in Modesty– I use this color for my bridal makeups on the regular. I liked it so much on them, I had to have one for myself (and from the picture, I’ve used it all the way to a nub). It’s the perfect shade of pinky nude that it works great with every makeup look.

Mac Cosmetics Lustre Lipstick in Giddy– If you’ve seen me lately, I most likely have this color on. This is up there with Modesty as being one of my favorites everyday lipsticks. I love the combo of the NYX Natural lip liner and this pinky tone to give my lips a sexy, elegant appeal. I wore this color on my wedding day and it made me feel so confident and girly.

Mac Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Mehr– This has definitely been a Winter favorite. I like to switch it up and wear more mattes in the Winter and shimmery glosses in the Spring/Summer. This color is a perfect rosey, neutral matte that even when it starts to fade throughout the day, it gives the lips a natural look. Another plus of a matte, they last so a long time. I hardly have to reapply when I’m out with a matte lipstick on. Winning!

Tarte H2O Gloss in Room Service– When I wear a gloss, I feel super sexy. I love a good gloss, y’all! A gloss always makes the lips look youthful, plump, and this gloss does just that. I found this line on a trip to Sephora with one of my girlfriends. I figured I’d try it out and maybe wear it every once in a while. I didn’t realize I’d fall for this gloss and actually finish one bottle and purchase another. The formula is thicker and the color is deeply pigmented and lasts for hours. This is one gloss I keep in my purse to use whenever I want to get a little pep in my step.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF15– This is a must have in my purse or beach bag. I use the clear formula, but I do love the Rose tinted color as well. This is great alone or under a lipstick to prevent the lips from drying out. It’s super moisturizing, long lasting, and doesn’t get weird after hours on the lips. I love wearing this at the beach because the added SPF keeps me protected all day long.

There’s just too many to talk about at once! Stay tuned for more of my favorite lip colors.
